First of all, it is not a financial decision and it is a positive thing. I’ve been praying, talking, and searching for a couple of years as to the best options for IF. Money has been an issue lately, but at this point it is not the deciding factor. As I’ve looked around at our context I think that IF has served its purpose that existed in 1992 but others are filling now. Our goal has always been to be a Christian presence in Little Five Points. Our secondary goal is to be a healthy venue for the local artists and musicians of Atlanta. I think we have been faithful to those goals for our 18 years. When we started in 1992 there was almost no serious, healthy church presence desiring to reach L5P and the surrounding areas. Today, praise God, that is not the situation. There are multiple healthy, sincere, innovative, congregations nearby. Some are older congregations and there are church plants nearby and more on the way. The number of Christians praying for and working around L5P has grown quite well in the past 15 years. I’ve sought out these congregations to see if there are ways we can work together and while they appreciate us, there has not been any real need for plans to be put forth. The musicians still love us as we love them. Lately we’ve had joy in helping musicians with causes. That has been fun and worthwhile but not our desire for full time ministry. We’ve always seen our music as secondary to other ministry and it seems that other avenues of ministry are just not needed from us at this time. We have thoroughly enjoyed our musicians and will miss the good weekend nights we’ve had with them. Our landlord and current property manager have been more than gracious to us through the years. Our rent was even decreased recently so that we would have the opportunity to catch up financially. My purpose here is that everyone understands our position. We will end in March, but not because of money. More financial support or another fundraiser is not needed. Unless God brings us a presently unforeseen reason to stay open for ministry, its time to move on. That being said; I pray that when we leave, we leave paid up. I would like to be fully paid up by the March deadline. Your help will be greatly appreciated. You may write checks to IF Coffeehouse or you may use the PayPal Donation link below. It is important that we catch up and finish well. Saturday, February 20, we will have a drop in party where I hope many of you will come by and allow me to thank you for your care, prayers, and financial support over the years. It has been a tremendous joy for me; thank you so much. Ken Evans
